When I first started working with breeders, I noticed how often stud dogs and bitches were being asked to perform at their very best, yet their nutrition was rarely tailored to the extra demands of breeding. That’s what first sent me looking at the small but powerful nutrients that play a role in reproductive wellbeing. Selenium quickly stood out - it’s only needed in the smallest of quantities, but it’s involved in some very important processes in the body

Why Selenium matters for breeding

Selenium is a trace mineral that supports a range of normal body functions. It contributes to:

• The protection of cells from oxidative stress.
• Normal thyroid and immune system function.
• Working alongside other antioxidants such as vitamin E (which is abundant in our Organic Wheatgerm Oil)

Breeding dogs are often under more physical stress than the average pet, which is why attention to trace minerals like selenium is an important part of their overall nutritional plan.

Backed by studies in dogs

Our new formula uses selenium yeast - an organic food form of selenium that is highly bioavailable. This is also the form used in published canine studies. In research settings (Domosławska et al., 2015; Domosławska et al., 2018), selenium yeast given with vitamin E was associated with measurable changes in semen quality parameters in dogs described as having lowered fertility. While every dog is different, it’s reassuring to know that the exact form we’ve chosen has been the subject of recognised studies within the last decade.

We didn’t just change the form of selenium, we improved the whole capsule:
