When should I give Flowtime Fenugreek?
This supplement is typically introduced once all puppies have arrived, during the early lactation window. It’s often used in the first week(s) post-whelp, particularly if mum seems tired, her milk is slow to settle in, or she’s struggling with a large or demanding litter.
Should I buy it before whelping, just in case?
Yes — many breeders choose to keep Flowtime on hand in advance, ready to use if needed. It’s not always required, but when it is, it’s usually needed quickly. That’s why it’s considered a staple in many whelping kits.
How much do I give?
Breeders traditionally use the “maple syrup breath” cue — a subtle sweet smell on the dog’s breath a few hours after giving Fenugreek. While not a scientific measurement, it’s a long-used method to gauge the right level of supplementation.
Suggested Feeding Guidance
Fenugreek is often introduced once puppies have been born, especially if mum is slow to settle into nursing or the litter is large. It can be used for a few days or up to a week, depending on your dog's needs and response.
Start with 1–2 capsules per 5kg of body weight per day, split across 2–3 servings. Breeders use the traditional sensory cue of ‘a sweet maple scent on the breath’ to guide adjustments for their individual dog — if present, the amount is likely appropriate. Please note that this is a traditional approach and cannot be used a medical diagnostic tool.
Capsules can be opened and mixed with liquid to create a wet mixture, or hidden in food.
